Clarence Burton "Burt" Culver passed away under the care of Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice at his home surrounded by family on June 5, 2017, from heart failure at the
age of 90.

Burt was born in 1927 to the late Cora (nee Lott) and Clarence Culver and resided in Branchville for his entire natural life. A former Executive Vice President of Selective Insurance from the 70's to the early 80's, Burt was also known as a notable collector of antiques for the past 60 years and was a regular at Castner's Thursday night auctions.
He began working for his Dad in a local family owned gas station business and later in the zinc mines in Ogdensburg.

Before entering the Armed Services (1952–1954), where he served as Corporal and received a National Defense Service Medal, Burt married his "true love", Myrtis May Gilbert Culver of Franklin in June 1949. They were married for 59 years before Myrtis' passing in May 2013.

In addition to attending auctions in New Jersey, New York, New England and Maryland, Burt loved swimming, gardening, cats and spending time with his family. As a member of the United Methodist Church of Branchville, he loved attending services on Sundays. Over the years, he has served on several councils, including leading the youth group shortly after marrying Myrtis. Burt also served on the Branchville Board of Education in the late 60's, having attended the school as a child and later went on to graduate from Newton High School.

Burt was predeceased by his wife, Myrtis, and a sister, Mildred Culver McDanolds and her husband, Bill. He is survived by two daughters, Connie Culver Cannavale and Cathy Culver Gardner and husband, Thomas Edward Gardner; five grandchildren, Gilbert and Garrett Gardner and Dominic, Sarah and Beatrice Cannavale; one brother, Robert Lamar Culver; as well as one niece, Mary McDanolds Backus, and one nephew, Bill McDanolds..

Memorial Visitation will be held Thursday, June 8, 2017, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Branchville, 8 Broad Street, Branchville, followed by a 4:30 p.m. Memorial Service at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wood Funeral Home, 16 Main Street, Branchville.

It is the wish of the family that all memorial donations may be made to Karen Ann Quinlan Memorial Foundation, 99 Sparta Avenue, Newton, NJ 07860 or the United Methodist Church of Branchville, 8 Broad Street, Branchville, NJ 07826. Online condolences may be offered at www.woodfuneralhome.net.
