Helen VanderWey, 90, of Frankford Township, died Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Bentley Assisted Living in Frankford Township.

Born in Leewarden, Netherlands, Helen came to the United States in 1926 and lived in Hampton Township for 40 years before moving to Frankford Township in 2008. She and her late husband were the co-owners of a dairy farm in Hampton Township. Helen was a member of Newton Covenant Reformed Church. An avid oil painter, she enjoyed arts and crafts as well as gardening.

The daughter of the late Jerry and Dorothy (nee DeVries) Bakker, Helen was also predeceased by her husband, Raymond VanderWey, on August 15, 2010, and her brother Charles Bakker. She is survived by three children, Dorothy VanderWey and George of Sparta, Henry VanderWey and wife, Nancy, of Hudsonville, Michigan, and Rita Myers and husband, Larry, of Hampton Township; three grandchildren, Jason VanderWey, Stephanie Nagelkirk and Julie VanderWey; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Newton Covenant Reformed Church, 23 Thompson Street, Newton. Interment will follow in Frankford Plains Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton.
