Dennis J. Nick, 69, of Andover Township, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice in Fredon Township.

Born and raised in Clifton, Dennis was a resident of Hopatcong for 27 years, then lived in the Crystal Springs section of Hardyston Township before moving to Andover Township 15 years ago. He served in the National Guard from 1969 to 1970. Dennis earned both his BA and his Masters degrees from Newark State Teachers College, which is now Kean University and also had additional schooling at Rutgers University. He began his career as a teacher at Morris Knolls High School, then taught at Hopatcong High School. He went on to become the Assistant Superintendent at Morris County Technical School, then was the Principal at Sussex County Technical School and retired as Principal at Jefferson Township High School. Upon his retirement, Dennis worked at Marine Max at Lake Hopatcong. He was a member of the Principals and Supervisors Association, where he also served on the Executive Committee.

The son of the late Joseph Nick, Dennis was predeceased by his first wife, Eileen Nick, in 1997. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Linda Lanterman Nick; two daughters, Jennifer L. Sawicki and husband, David T., of Great Meadows and Jessalyn A. Coffin and husband, Jared, of West Milford; three grandchildren, Katie Sawicki, Madelyn Sawicki and Caroline Coffin; his mother, Doris Nick of Clifton; and his sister, Wendy Gallart and husband, Michael, of Clifton. He is also survived by his close friend, Matthew Halke, and his beloved Labradoodle, Bailey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Newton. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum in Newton. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 20, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton.
