Dorothy Hayden Fletcher, 84, of Fredon Township, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at the United Methodist Communities at Bristol Glen in Newton.

Born in the Bronx, NY, and raised in Yonkers, NY, Dorothy spent most of her life in Sussex County. For ten years, she worked at Newton Memorial Hospital (Newton Medical Center) and was later active as a volunteer and fund raiser. She is predeceased by her husband, Dr. Lucian Fletcher, Jr., originally of Branchville. Dr. Fletcher was a cardiologist and founder of the cardiac care unit at the hospital. He was also a founding member of the Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, in Newton.

The couple were avid travelers and skiers, and were active in many local organizations, including the Newton Rotary and the Boy Scouts of America. She is predeceased by her first husband, Albert Joseph Miller, of the Bronx, NY. They had two children, Bryan Joseph Miller, of Tarrytown, NY, and Diane Kaspareck, of Hillsborough, NJ, and two grandchildren: Sean Albert Miller, of Tarrytown, NY, and Ryan Kaspareck, of Hillsborough, NJ. She is predeceased by her second husband, Benjamin V. Butkus, of Andover, NJ.

Aside from her two children she had a number of step-children: "Chip" Fletcher III, of Blairstown; Kristen Fletcher, of Park City, Utah; Constance Fletcher Hindle of Pittstown; and Thomas Fletcher, of Morristown.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 20, 2017, at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton. Interment will follow in Newton Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday. February 19, 2017, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
