Florence S. Boss, 97 years old, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017, at her residence in Port Charlotte, Florida, after a brief illness.

Florence was born in McAfee, N.J., to Thomas R. and Lillian W. Sisco in 1919. She was the ninth child of thirteen siblings, all of whom are predeceased. Her youngest brother (Ray) was killed in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII, just one week after his 21st Birthday. She graduated from Hamburg High School, Hamburg, N.J., and earned a Bachelor's degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College.

On July 4, 1942, Florence married Wilbur D. Boss of Newton, N.J., and were married for 57 years until Wilbur's death in 1999. She worked for many years
as a bookkeeper in the Newton area, then retired from the Sussex County Clerk's Office as Supervisor of Records after 20 years of service. In 1972 they retired to their home in Port Charlotte.

Florence was a very active lady and involved in many organizations, but her pride was with the Republican Clubs in New Jersey, as well as in Florida, working at every level – local, county and state. She was personally invited to attend two Presidential Inaugurations, which she did proudly. She was Past President of the local AAUW, sat on the Board of Directors for one of the local colleges. A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Newton, Florence was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte, where she devoted her time to church groups and activities. Florence was a 50 year member and Past Matron of the Melchior Chapter #131, the Order of the Eastern Star.

Florence was predeceased by her husband, Wilbur D., her parents, all her siblings, and many of her nieces and nephews. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Joan B. Kubala and her beloved son-in-law, Ronald S. Kubala, of Port Charlotte, as well as her son, Frank V. Boss; and her grandson, Frank V. Boss, Jr., both of California. She cherished the love and devotion given by Louise and Michael Kubala and their family, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Florence will always be remembered for her wonderful smile that she had for everyone and will be greatly missed. She was firm in her beliefs, but would gladly discuss your concerns with grace, dignity and respect. Over the years, she's cared for many family members and friends, and by her compassionate love, she was everyone's "MaMa".

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017, in Newton Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton.

In lieu of Flowers, donations can be made in her memory to a charity of choice.

Joan and Ron Kubala would like to sincerely thank all the wonderful staff from Harbour Health, South Port Square, and Tidewell Hospice for their dedication and care given to Florence. It was greatly appreciated.
