Harris "Harry" Sanfilippo, 92, of Newton, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Newton Medical Center of complications from the flu.

Born in Newark, Harry moved with his family to Bloomfield and graduated from Bloomfield High School. Volunteering for active duty in World War II, Harry was an Army veteran from 1942 to 1946, and served in Europe as the war ended.

Upon his return, with the support of family and immigrant parents, who loved their adopted country, Harry received his Bachelors from Union College and later his Masters in Business from NYU. He enjoyed a long and rewarding career in Human Resources, working for Bell Laboratories and AT&T for 38 years as Human Resource Division Manager in New York, Massachusetts, and New Jersey until his retirement in 1986.

With a life-long focus on helping others, Harry was involved in civic organizations during his time in Massachusetts and remained an active member of his community well into his retirement in NJ. He was involved with the Telephone Pioneers of America, was a 30-year member of the Old Guard in Summit, and was a long-time volunteer for the Summit Chapter of the Red Cross, where he met his cherished wife, Betty.

The son of the late Anthony and Rose (La Bruno) Sanfilippo, Harry was also predeceased by an infant son; and two brothers, Joe SanFilippo and Sal Sanfilippo. He is survived by his devoted wife, Elizabeth "Betty" (May) Sanfilippo; his children, Nedra San Filippo and partner, Keith French, Janice "Jan" Unoski and husband, John and Dean SanFilippo and wife, Madeline; his grandchildren, Emma Unoski, Alex San Filippo-Rosser and wife, Sarah French; his stepdaughters, Rondi Nelson and Suzanne Matthews and husband, Tom; and his step-grandchildren, Scott Ramnitz, Timothy Ramnitz, and Michael Ramnitz. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary D'Alonzo, Bob SanFilippo and wife, Eleanor, Helen Quinn and husband, Chuck; and his sisters-in-law, Nancy SanFilippo and Patricia Sanfilippo; as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2017, in the Chapel at Bristol Glen, 200 Bristol Glen Drive, Newton, for directions visit https://bristolglen.umcommunities.org/ Interment will be private.
