Dorothy Nixon, 77, of Andover Township, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Andover Subacute and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family.

Born in Paterson, Dorothy attended school in West Milford then graduated from Butler High School. She was a Nurse's Aide at Andover Subacute and Rehabilitation Center for 16 years before her retirement and had previously worked for VNA (Visiting Nurses Association). A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Newton, Dorothy was President of the Wallkill Valley First Aid Auxiliary, where she played Mrs. Claus for the Auxiliary, and was also involved in the Civil War Reenactment group. An avid reader and great cook, Dorothy loved dogs and was an especially great mom and grandmother.

Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband, Frank Smith, her second husband, Warren Berckmann, and her third husband, Ken Nixon. She is survived by her four children, Frank Smith and wife, Dorothy, Donna DeGarmo and husband, Don, Janice Birkholz, and John R. Smith; her six grandchildren, Donny, Nicole, Danielle, David, Melissa, and Patrick; as well as her great-granddaughter, Sophia. She is also survived by her five siblings, Darlene, Mary, Frank, John and Butch.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2016, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Newton, 54 High Street, Newton, followed by an 11 a.m. Memorial Service at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton.
