Eleanor M. Zukowski, 91, of the Swartswood section of Stillwater Township, passed away on Sunday morning, December 25, 2016, at Barn Hill Care Center in Newton.

Born Eleanor Margaret Snook, she lived in Sussex County for over 70 years. She grew up and raised her five children in the Town of Newton. She worked as a waitress at Lake Mohawk Golf Club. In midlife, "Ellie" moved to Fort Pierce, Florida. She wanted to be near her sisters, Margie and Beulah, and her son, Randy, and his growing family. While living in Florida, she enjoyed running the camera department at Walgreens and made many new friends in the community. In 2000, she moved back to New Jersey to live with her son, Joe, in his new home in the Swartswood section in the Swartswood section of Stillwater Township. There she enjoyed many years of renewed family connections and made more new friends.

A former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Newton, Ellie enjoyed cooking and gardening and was masterful at knitting and crocheting. Always willing to try something new, she was a competent seamstress and enjoyed making holiday crafts. Over the years, she beaded hundreds of ornaments for the family Christmas tree and made many handmade gifts for her children and friends. A devoted mother at her core, watching young children gave her much pleasure. She loved to color and read stories to the youngest. Grandma Z had been blessed with numerous great-grandchildren, as well as great-great-grandchildren. Her family and friends will always remember her kindness, gentle heart and beautiful smile.

Eleanor was the youngest daughter of the late Emily and Alfred Ray Snook and will be buried next to her parents in Newton Cemetery. Her older brothers and sisters, Alfred and Hobert, Margorie and Beulah, have preceded her in death. Her younger brother, Gerald Snook, lives in Fredon. Of her five children, the oldest two, Rodney Storm (December 30, 2014) and Randolph "Randy" Storm (March 19, 2016), have passed away. She is survived by sons, Ray Storm and Joseph Zukowski, Jr., of Swartswood, and daughter, Ellen Ferguson of Juneau, Alaska. Of her nine grandchildren, Dustin Storm passed away on September 25, 2015. She is survived by her grandchildren, Matt Storm and Athena Hawkins, who live nearby, while Adam and Patrick Storm, Erika Sparks, Deanna King, Valerie Moore and Maranda Storm are living Florida. She is also survived by great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2016, at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton. Interment will follow in Newton Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
