Anthony Raia, 90, of the Kemah Lake section of Hampton Township, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at home surrounded by his wife of 70 years, Filomena, and his loving family.

Born in Fairview, Anthony moved from Bergen County to Andover Township, then moved to Kemah Lake in 1984. He was Veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II on the U.S.S. Laws from 1941 to 1945, which not only was Anthony proud of, his family was as well. He worked as an electrician with Union Local #1319 IBEW before his retirement. Anthony was a life member of Newton Memorial Post 5360 V.F.W. After his retirement, Anthony was a craftsman and loved working with wood. Anthony also liked working on small engines, and also loved to shoot as well.

The son of the late Stephen and Fortuna (nee Paradise) Raia, Anthony is survived by his wife, Filomena M. Raia, whom he married in 1946; four daughters, Patricia Steffen of Montague, Barbara Curto and husband, Gary, of Brick, Toni Jones-Sabol of Pennsylvania, and Phyllis Flanagan and husband, John, of Andover Borough; eight grandchildren, Michael, Renee, Jon, Jeannette, Christina, Nicole, Steven, and Cody; as well as nine great-grandchildren, Brian, Colin, Eric, Leigha, Elijah, Braeden, Kaleb, Sean and Ronan. He is also survived by two sisters, Ann Mohr of Sparta and Mary Ferrara of Florida.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton. Interment will follow in Branchville Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, December 9, 2016, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with V.F.W services being held at the funeral home at 7 p.m.
