Memorial for Margaret L. Nichols

Born in Orange, NJ on Sep. 8, 1924
Died on Nov. 28, 2016 and resided in Sparta, NJ.
Service: Private Service

Margaret "Bunny" Nicholls, 92, of Sparta, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 28, 2016, at the Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice in Fredon Township.

Margaret was born in Orange to Cicero and Elizabeth (Menzel) Robinson on September 8, 1924. She graduated from Montclair High School in 1942 and went to work for the Prudential Insurance Company in Newark as a dictaphone operator.

After the war, in September 1945, Margaret married Robert "Bob" Nicholls and moved to Nutley to raise a family. While living in Nutley, she was active in the Radcliffe PTA, American Red Cross and Vincent Methodist Church. In 1982 Margaret and Bob retired to Crestwood Village in Whiting. In retirement Margaret enjoyed cruising with Bob and trips to Florida to visit with family. They also took a cross country tour and enjoyed trips to Atlantic City.

Margaret moved to Knoll Heights in Sparta in 2002. She enjoyed her new friends and all of the activities offered, especially Bingo. She was so thankful for the caring staff at Knoll Heights and Knoll View.

A favorite pastime of Margaret's was knitting. She knitted each member of her family an heirloom afghan, a Christmas stocking, and a Scandinavian sweater. She knitted baby booties for any new arrivals, as well as children's mittens. She recently won a blue ribbon at the NJ State Fair for her baby booties.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 53 years, Robert; her son, Gregg; and her brother, Charles.

Loved ones remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters, Joan Hennion and husband, Parker, of Andover, and Patricia Mielke and husband, Andrew, of Harwich, Massachusetts; six grandchildren, Brian Mielke, Kristina Pellegrino, Laurie Beth Perry, Jennifer Stiansen, Leanne Griffo, and Jessica Nicholls; and six beloved great-grandchildren, Kailey, Connor, Madison, Lyla, Steven, and Caroline. Margaret also leaves behind her sisters, Gladys Stroud of Severna Park, Maryland, and Ann Quinn of Andover; as well as many nephews and nieces.

As requested by Margaret, there will be no visitation, and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Margaret was an angel on earth and is now a heavenly angel.

The family requests that any donation in memory of Margaret be made to the Karen Ann Quinlan Memorial Foundation, 99 Sparta Avenue, Newton, NJ 07860 or to Knoll Heights/View Memorials, 39 Trapasso Drive, Sparta, NJ 07871.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton.
