Apostolos "Paul" Karakatsanis, 71, of Newton, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2016, at Barn Hill Care Center in Newton.

Paul was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1944 to the late Mathias and Theodora nee (Shikarides) Karakatsanis, then moved to the United States in the early 1970's. He worked as a cook for 40 years at various locations; his most recent was at his wife's restaurant, Brenda's Diner, on Spring Street in Newton. Paul was a man with an incredible work ethic who worked hard to give his family a beautiful life.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Brenda Canfield; his daughter, Dora Rodriguez of Newton; his son, Pascxalis Karakatsanis and his wife, Lisa, of Newton; his grandchildren, Joshua, Damian, Rony, Maria, and Pascxalis of Newton; his sisters, Smaro Karakatsanis and Maria Kousi of Thessaloniki, Greece; and his nieces and nephews.

Services for Paul will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, 1447 Sussex Turnpike, Randolph. Interment will follow at Newton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St, Newton.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Paul's memory to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America, 15 South Franklin Street, New Ulm, MN 56073 or to St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, 1447 Sussex Turnpike, Randolph, NJ 07869.
