Rosemary T. Woodring, 70, of Newton, died Sunday, September 25, 2016, at home.

Born and raised in Newton, Rosemary was a lifelong resident of Newton. She graduated from Newton High School in 1964 and the University of New Mexico in 1968. Rosemary taught English and Religion at St. Cecelia School in Rockaway for 40 years before her retirement in 2011. She was named Teacher of the Year in 2006. A member of St. Joseph R.C. Church in Newton, Rosemary was a member of the Columbiettes of St. Joseph, was active in St Joseph Migrant Ministry, as well as the food pantry and bread delivery for the poor. She also enjoyed cooking and writing poems.

The daughter of the late Cornelius Fitzpatrick (1981) and Carrie Scalise Fitzpatrick (2002), Rosemary was also predeceased by a brother, James C. Fitzpatrick (2012), and a nephew, Mark (1994).

She is survived by her nephews, David Mussari and wife, Andrea, of West Chester, Ohio, Scott Mussari and wife, Patty, of Kings Mills, Ohio, Jimmy Fitzpatrick and wife, Melissa, of Brooklyn, New York, and John Fitzpatrick of Woodbridge; great-nephews and nieces, Jordan Whitacre, Oscar, Henry, Anthony, Savannah, Jeremy and Michael Mussari, and Jack, Genevieve and Nicholas Fitzpatrick; great-great-nieces, Natalie, Naomi and Nicole Whitacre; her husband, Jerry Woodring; her sister, Beverly (nee Fitzpatrick) Mussari and husband, Jerry, of Cincinnati, Ohio; and her sister-in-law, Jane Fitzpatrick, of Woodbridge.

She is also survived by her stepchildren, Sheila Kelleher and husband, Doug Ritschel, of Warren, Brian Woodring and wife, Jean, of West Brook, Maine, Laurie Cugno and husband, Tony, of Jacksonville, Florida, Matthew Kelleher of Tucson, Arizona, Erin McKenney and husband, Dirk, of Newton, Julie Woodring and husband, Brian Czarniecki, of Hackettstown, and Lise Woodring of Hackettstown; as well as four grandchildren, Lauren Cugno, Ryley Hickman, Adam McKenney, and Nicholas McKenney.

Funeral services will begin at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2016, at the Smith-McCracken, 63 High Street, Newton, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Newton. Entombment will be held in St. Joseph Mausoleum. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 28, 2016, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
