S. Clark Hendershot, 95, of Fredon died Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at home.

Born in Stillwater, Clark was a lifelong resident of Sussex County. He graduated Newton High School in 1939; he was a former farmer, businessman and car dealer. Clark was an active businessman in Sussex County, serving as President of the former J.R. Roof dealership, past Director of Newton Trust Company and other business interests. He was an active member in the community; he served as President of the Newton Hospital Board, President of the Newton Rotary Club, and Trustee of the First Presbyterian Church in Newton. He was also a member of the Newton Elks Club and Master Mason of Harmony Lodge #8.

Son of the late Clarence and Beulah (Westbrook) Hendershot, Clark is predeceased by his first wife, M. Celeste (Roof) Hendershot; and a brother, Richard C. Hendershot. He is survived by his second wife, Dorothy (Mitton) Hendershot; three children, Peggy Schaberg and her husband, George of Fredon, NJ, Janeth Hendershot of Washington Crossing, PA, and Sharon Drake and her husband, Robert of Great Meadows, NJ; a brother, Raymond Hendershot of Swartswood Lake, NJ; four grandchildren, Margriet Schaberg of Bernardsville, NJ, George Schaberg and his wife, Tara-Lynn of Frelinghuysen, NJ, Bryan Drake of Branchville, NJ, and Brittany Drake of Great Meadows, NJ; and two step-daughters, Kathy Mitton of Sioux Falls, SD and Gail Larzelere and her husband, Mike of Franklinville, NJ.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Yellow Frame Presbyterian Church, 1 Yellow Frame Rd, Fredon, NJ, followed by a burial at Tranquility Cemetery, Maple Lane Rd, Green Twp., NJ. Visitation will be held at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, NJ from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2016.
