Joan A. Alicks, 74, of Newton died Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Valley View Care Center.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, to the late John and Frances (nee) Niechwiadowicz, Joan spent most of her childhood here. Upon marrying her husband, Bernard, the couple relocated to Morristown where they spent their entire married life. Joan was then a resident of Hamilton Square before relocating to Newton in 2012. She worked in Princeton over 20 years for Educational Testing Services. Joan was a proud grandmother and aunt; she loved antiquing and spending long days at the beach with her sisters.
Joan is predeceased by her loving husband, Bernard Alicks; a brother, John Niech, and her parents. She is survived by her son, Christopher J. Alicks and his wife, Kathleen of Augusta, NJ; her grandchildren, Connor and Carter Alicks; her sisters, Mary Blow of Yardville, NJ, Bernadette Rue of Hamilton Square, NJ, and Margaret Hanson of Pocono Lake, PA; her brother, Derrick Niechwiadowicz of Lakewood, NJ; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, August 22, 2016, at Queen of Peace RC Church, 10 Franklin Pl, North Arlington, NJ. Burial of Cremains will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 340 Ridge Rd, North Arlington, NJ. Memorial Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St, Newton, NJ.
