Letitia (Letty) H. Welsh, 92, of Newton, died Sunday, August 14, 2016, at her daughter's home in Stillwater Township.
Born and raised in Queens, N.Y, Letty Gamble met Warren Welsh, a Nevada boy in the Army Air Corps, at a USO function in New York City in the early days of WWII. After the war, they married and moved to Newton in 1950. Mr. & Mrs. Welsh were active members in the Sussex County community through Warren's association with The Sussex County Extension Service, Sussex County Fair, Newton Rotary, The First Presbyterian Church of Newton, and other service. Letty enjoyed photography, cooking, gardening, her grandchildren, and the company of her ever-present Welsh Corgi dogs... always named, "Corky". The Welsh's were also avid travelers... having visited every U.S. state during their life together and many countries around the world in their retirement years.
She was the daughter of the late William and Letitia (nee Latimer) Gamble, and was also predeceased by her husband, Warren Welsh (2011), and two sisters, Mildred Smith (1992) and Dorothy Wilson (2011). Mrs. Welsh is survived by her daughter, Linda Welsh Zalme and her husband, Ronald, of Stillwater Township; three grandchildren, Jessica Thompson and her husband, Brook; Warren Zalme and his wife, Elizabeth, and Owen Zalme and his wife Millicent; three great-grandchildren, Luke Thompson, Myles Thompson and Joseph Zalme; two nephews, Ronald Smith and his wife, Barbara, and Malcolm Smith and his wife, Alice; and one niece, Tamsen Sweigert and her husband, Alan.
Graveside services will be held Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at the Branchville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, 99 Sparta Ave., Newton, N.J. 07860. Funeral services are under the direction of the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton. Online condolences may be offered at www.smithmccrackenfuneralhome.com.
