Margaret Susan Lanterman, 88, of Andover Township, died Thursday, August 4, 2016, at Newton Medical Center.

Born in Larksville, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Lanterman lived in Mount Hope, then moved to Frelinghuysen in 1948 when she married. In 1964, she moved to Fredon Township and has been a resident of Andover Township since 2010. She was a graduate of Dover High School and worked as a secretary for the Sussex County Welfare Board before her retirement. She had previously been employed as a secretary at the former Don Bosco College, as well as the former Anken Chemical. A member of St. Joseph R.C. Church in Newton, Mrs. Lanterman was a member of the Lafayette Senior Citizens and a ceramic group.

The daughter of the late Michael and Barbara (nee Tomasura) Chervenak, Mrs. Lanterman was also predeceased by her husband, Herman L. Lanterman, on June 29, 1985; three sisters, Ann Valenti, Mary Minchak and Veronica Satula; a brother, John Chervenak; and a niece and nephew. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Susan Nick and husband, Dennis of Andover Township; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; and longtime friend, Gale Halke of Newton.

Funeral services will begin at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Newton. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 8, 2016, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
