RICHARD, Donald, age 82, of Boynton Beach, Florida, formerly of Newton and West Orange, passed away on July 24, 2016.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, to Russian immigrants, Morris and Lena (nee Plavnick) Richard, Donald is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Celia (nee Steinmesser) Richard; three daughters, Sandra Richard of Westwood, Michele Richard, and Elaine Richard of Potomac, MD. He was also blessed to have two fabulous grandchildren who inspired him to pursue a short-lived interest in photography as a personal hobby.

Donald served as President and Owner of Richard Plumbers Supply, a title bestowed to him upon the passing of his brother, Abraham "Al" Richard, in the early 1960's. Donald also served as Sussex County Democratic Chairman and past President of the Newton Jaycees. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and served in the N.J. National Guard. The only thing that exceeded his passion for the New York Yankees was his lifetime interest and participation in local, state, and national politics. Donald enjoyed deep sea fishing, harness racing, and fine dining, especially prime steaks.

A semi-private graveside service was held on July 28, 2016, at the North Hardyston Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Donald Richard may be made to birthrightIsrael.foundation.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton. Online condolences may be offered at www.smithmccrackenfuneralhome.com.
