Joseph C. Savage, 79, of Fredon Township, died July 12th, 2016 at Kindred Hospital in Dover, New Jersey.

Born in The Bronx, New York, Joseph lived in Little Falls for six years before moving to Fredon Township in 1970. Mr. Savage was a vice principal at Mount Olive High School before retiring in 1986. Prior to Mount Olive High school, he taught at Trenton State and Montclair State. Mr. Savage was also in building construction his entire life. Mr. Savage graduated from Millersville State Teachers College, where he was a full scholarship athlete in football and track. Mr. Savage received his Masters at Trenton State Teachers College. He was a member of St. Josephs R.C. Church and Knights of Columbus Don Bosco Council.

Joseph was the son of the late Joseph C. Savage Sr. and Mary Mitchell Savage, and was also predeceased by four siblings, Albert Savage, Evelyn Binkowski, Jerome Savage, and Charles Savage. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elaine A. Polinski Savage of Fredon; his two sons, Joseph C. Savage III of Fredon, and Michael D. Savage and wife, Maria, of Fredon; two grandchildren, Joey C. Savage IV and Jacob Roy Savage, both of Fredon; his sister, Rosemarie Belonsoff and husband, John, of DeFuniak Spring, Fla. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, John Binkowski and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Sunday July 17th, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Smith- McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street Newton. Funeral services
will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, July 18th, 2016, at the funeral home, followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Newton. Entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum.
