Oscar L. Miller, Jr., 89, of Green Township, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at home with family after a brief illness.

He was born to the late Oscar L. Miller, Sr., and Florence Miller on January 1, 1927, in Goshen, New York. One of eleven children, Oscar was predeceased by his sisters, Doris, Evelyn, Sandy and Velma. He is survived by his sisters, Flo, Marilyn and Kathy, and his brothers, Arthur, Richard and Glenn.

Oscar was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Lillian B. "Betty" (nee Card) Miller, who passed away on December 4, 2002. He leaves his legacy to his six children, Jeff Miller and wife, Linda, of Newton, Oscar Miller III and partner, Robin, of Marshalls Creek, Pennsylvania, Charles Miller and wife, Mary, of Wittmann, Arizona, Donna Rogers of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, David Miller and wife, Betty, of Greendell, and Richard Miller and wife, Cherylann, of Land O' Lakes, Florida; as well as thirteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

A Second Class Seaman on the USS Hancock during World War II, Oscar was a lifetime member of the VFW. He was a member of Newton Memorial Post 5360 VFW and was a former member of VFW Post 8441 in Vernon. He was also a lifetime member of the Green Township Fire Department and Fire Police. Oscar was a former Green Township Road Department Supervisor, retiring in 1993 after 21 years of service. He enjoyed his family and grandchildren, hiking and woodworking.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2016, at the Smith-McCracken, 63 High Street, Newton. Interment will follow in Tranquility Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, July 1, 2016, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, with VFW Services at 7:15 p.m. and Firemen's Services at 8:30 p.m.
