Harry L. Brooks, 87, of Newton, died Sunday, June 12, 2016, at the Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice in Fredon Township.

Born in Sussex Hospital, Mr. Brooks was raised in Hampton Township and has been a resident of Newton for the past 64 years. He was a 1946 graduate of Newton High School and was employed by the former Limestone Corp. for 43 years, where he held various positions before his retirement. A member of Sparta Evangelical Free Church, Mr. Brooks was a very generous and humble person.

The son of the late Harry Ogden Brooks and Carrie (nee Roof) Brooks, Mr. Brooks was predeceased by his brothers, William and George, and his sisters, Dorothy, Marian and Adelaide. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eva (nee Branham); two children, Janice Brooks-Webster and husband, Donald, of Hampton Township and Douglas L. Brooks and wife, Janice, of Mebane, North Carolina; one grandson, Zachary R. Brooks; and three sisters, Alice Harris of Newton, Mildred Dubiel of Franklin and Elsie Reed of California. He is also survived by his church family at Sparta Evangelical Free Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at the Smith-McCracken, 63 High Street, Newton. Interment will follow in Newton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at the funeral home.
