Ruth E. Sliker, 90, of the Lake Tranquility section of Green Township, died Friday, June 10, 2016, at Barn Hill Care Center in Newton.

Born and raised in Sparta, Mrs. Sliker lived in the Lake Tranquility section of Green Township for over 60 years. She was a 1943 graduate of Newton High School. A dressmaker/seamstress, Mrs. Sliker worked for the former Franklin Dress Company in Newton.

The daughter of the late R. D. Burd and Bessie May (nee Crouse) Burd, Mrs. Sliker was predeceased by her husband, Albert Victor Sliker, on May 10, 2006, and was also predeceased by three siblings, Roy Burd, Frances Goarcke and Ethel Barnes. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Bene and husband, William E., of the Lake Tranquility section of Green Township, and her son, Larry Sliker and wife, Maryanne LaFleur, of Greenwood Lake, New York. Also surviving her are six grandchildren, Meredith Gibb and husband, Larry, Melanie Bene and husband, Randy Smith, Debbie Knaus, David Smelson and wife, Cheryl, Daniel LaFleur and fiancée, Hannah, and Krista LaFleur; as well as four great-grandchildren, Kayli Gibb, Alex Smelson, Miles Knaus, and Marisol Knaus.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, in Tranquility Cemetery, 19 Maple Lane, Green Township. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 14, 2016, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton.
