After living with a brain tumor for 22 months Barbara E. Vander Hart was taken to the place prepared for her by her Savior, Jesus Christ. (John 14: 1-3)

The daughter of John B. Thomson, Jr. and Jane Eddy, Barbara was born in New York City on September 22, 1942. She was raised in Feasterville, PA where she met and married on September 23, 1961 The Rev. Gerald Paul Vander Hart, a Reformed Church in America minister.

Gifted in music, Barbara and her husband were partners in ministry. They served at DeWitt Reformed Church in New York City from 1961-1972. Barbara and Gerry moved to Sleepy Hollow, NY serving the Reformed Church which included The Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow until 1998 when they retired in Stillwater Township, NJ. Barbara served the Stillwater Presbyterian Church for five years as organist/Director of Music and for the past nine years was Organist/Director of Music at the First Presbyterian Church of Sussex, NJ. She was a member of the Sussex County Oratorio Society. Barbara was an avid seamstress, fierce Scrabble player, inspired genius behind Wooly and Fluffy, decorator, collector of things that sparkle, she had a passion for bargain shopping and was an all around creative person. She was a devoted wife, an incredibly loving mother, a cherished grandmother and had the spiritual gift of unconditional love for everyone.

Barbara is survived by her husband and four children and their spouses, Wendy (Joanne), Paul (Robin), Jennifer (Dan), and Laurie (Myles), nine grandchildren and four step-grandchildren, her brother and sister-in-law John B. Thomson III and Judy, a sister-in-law Wally Fopma, five nephews and a cousin Peter Clark and his wife and son Martha and David, and a host of friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and a fifth child, Christopher John.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Sussex on Friday, June 17 at 2:00 p.m. An additional service at the Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow followed by the interment of her cremains in the "Burying Ground of the Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow" will be held on Saturday, June 18 at 11:00 a.m.

Memorials in her name may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Sussex, 21 Unionville Ave. Sussex, NJ 07461.

The family is grateful to the medical staff of Mount Sinai Hospital (NYC), Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, White Plains, NY, the Newton Medical Center, Newton, NJ, the Sparta Cancer Center, Sparta, NJ, Dr. Walter Grote of Blairstown, NJ, the staff of the Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice Care and Home, Fredon, NJ and a personal aide, Sharon Wejsa of Wantage, NJ, along with many friends and parishioners who reached out to Barbara in her long last journey.
